The Hotel

Hotel España, located on Las Ramblas in Barcelona next to the Gran Teatre del Liceu, will join the Ocean Drive portfolio starting in February 2025.

The establishment features 83 rooms with contemporary design and Mediterranean influences. Its facilities include the Alaire sky bar, solarium, swimming pool, and event spaces, notably the Arnau Room with its alabaster fireplace and the Sirenas Lounge.

The Fonda España restaurant, led by chef Martín Berasategui alongside chefs Edu Rodas and Rubén Maldonado, offers traditional cuisine with avant-garde touches.

In 2025, the hotel will undergo a new renovation led by the Lázaro Rosas studio, aiming to restore the essence of Catalan modernist architecture while maintaining its commitment to personalized hospitality and connection with local culture.

LOCATION
Barcelona, despite its size, is an easy city to navigate. As long as you have a Hotel in Barcelona city centre, you will be able to visit the main tourist attractions on foot.

Art, history and design

Hotel España, considered a little jewel of Catalonian Modernism, was originally opened in 1859 with the name of Fonda de España and then went on to be refurbished by the celebrated Modernist architect Lluís Domènech i Montaner, in the early 20th Century, with the collaboration of Eusebi Arnau and Ramón Casas.

The restoration project that the hotel underwent in 2010 has brought back the spirit conceived by Domènech i Montaner. The modernist spaces have been refurbished to their original design, and at the same time the hotel has been equipped with the latest technology, design and comfort.

Fonda España

The restaurant is located in the Modernist dining room originally designed and decorated by Domènech i Montaner, a rich environment of historical value in which the older features enhance and inspire the new.
